What are Smiling Mind Spaces?
Spaces are often defined by the activities we do in them. We have spaces for eating, sleeping, playing, learning and working. The spaces in which we engage in particular activities, impact our experiences and perceptions of both the spaces and the activities.
Creating a space for mindfulness activities and social and emotional learning is important, it provides a safe and associated area dedicated to learning and practising key skills. It may be more difficult to cultivate the qualities of mindfulness in a space associated with activity and energy, conversely having a dedicated Smiling Mind Space, may support children to tap into their skills more readily.
Combining our evidence-based mindfulness tools and resources with Dulux’s expertise in colour and design – we are empowering primary school communities to create physical mindfulness spaces within their schools to further support daily mindfulness practice and social and emotional learning outcomes.
Developed collaboratively by Smiling Mind psychologists, Dulux colour experts and wellbeing educators from around Australia, we’ve created the Smiling Mind Spaces Toolkit to guide you in creating mindful spaces to learn, practise and connect.
